It seems to me as though we don't properly discuss the total extent of the harm that has been caused to people due to the pandemic. We've been isolating ourselves for nearly an entire year at this point, and any of us had to interrupt vital periods of our lives. High schoolers are losing contact with their close ones in the formative years of their lives where they develop an identity. The elderly can't connect with loved ones or friends at their age, fearing for their lives. Small children are losing the essential age where they begin exploring the world outside their family, making friends their age. It's gotten to the point that the World Health Organization has stated that poor mental health has become a parallel pandemic to COVID-19. The real toll of this pandemic will likely remain unknown for years to come, unfortunately.
